Recommendation: how to combat discrimination and hate speech in elections campaigns

Equinet, European Network of Equality Bodies, brings together 49 organizations from 36 European countries, which are empowered to counteract discrimination as national equality bodies across a range of grounds including age, disability, gender, race or ethnic origin, religion or belief, and sexual orientation.

Ahead of Elections to the European Parliament in 2019, as well as continuous elections happening at local, regional and national level around Europe, Equinet has developed a list of recommendations to be considered by political parties, candidates and media outlets (including social media) which focuses on the general principle of equality, prohibition of discrimination, tackling hate speech, addressing sensitive topics and promoting equal representation on electoral lists.

Recommendations can be found here.
