A reminder for the citizens of the EU about the registration to vote in the Elections to European Parliament

On May 23–26, 2019 in the Member States of the European Union the Elections to the European Parliament will take place. In Lithuania the Elections to the European Parliament will take place on May 26, 2019, on a Sunday.

The Law provides that the right to vote in the Elections to the European Parliament shall have not only Lithuanian citizens but also citizens of other Member States of the European Union residing in Lithuania who have reached the age of 18 on the Election Day.

A person shall be considered to be permanently residing in the Republic of Lithuania when he has declared his place of residence and the data relating to his place of residence in the Republic of Lithuania have been entered on the Residents' Register of the Republic of Lithuania prior to the reference date (March 22, 2019).

According to the legal acts of the European Union and the Law on Elections to the European Parliament, citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have gone to foreign states have the right to choose in which country to vote: in Lithuania or in a country of origin. It is forbidden to vote twice in the same elections.

If a citizen decides to vote in the state of which you are a citizen, you should contact your state's diplomatic mission or a consular post.

If a citizen decides to vote for the members of the European Parliament to the seats assigned for the Republic of Lithuania, they shall submit a filled-in official Voter Registration Form indicating your intention to the Central Electoral Commission until 7 May.

Having received a Voter Registration Form, the Central Electoral Commission will put a citizen on the electoral roll of the Republic of Lithuania and will send a request to the state to remove a citizen from the electoral roll of that state.

The Voter Registration Form can be sent until 7 May by post, as a scanned version by E-mail loreta.rakauskiene@vrk.lt or in person to the Central Electoral Commission:
