The elections to the municipal councillor - mayor in Marijampolės municipality: an opportunity to become election observers

The law on elections to municipal councils Article 58 provided, that parties, nominated or self-nominated candidates for municipal councillor or mayor, and election representatives shall each enjoy the right to appoint not more than two electoral observers in every polling district. It shall be prohibited to appoint wardens and deputy warders to be electoral observers. A certificate of the form set by the Central Electoral Commission shall confirm the status of electoral observer.

Election observer not only actively involved in the preliminary vote, observe an election day, vote counting, determining the election results, but also captures the possible election irregularities. Election observer has the right to observe the elections in the municipal or poling stations, which is indicated in the certificate area.

The CEC notes that every conscious and intolerant of corruption citizen can capture the possible election irregularities (agitation dissemination prohibited during the destruction of voter bribery, illegal ride, voting irregularities, etc.) and report about it to district and county election commission members, party observers, the CEC by email (rinkim@vrk.lt) or to the police 112.
